Christian Values

At Walsgrave Church of England Academy, our Christian values are at the heart of everything we do. They help us to live out our vision:

Together We Thrive – Belonging Together, Growing Together and Learning Together in God's Love.

Inspired by the words of Colossians 2:7, we seek to be "rooted and built up in Jesus", allowing our faith to shape our relationships, our learning and the way we care for one another.

Our six Christian values guide the life of our school community:

  • Friendship
  • Endurance
  • Thankfulness
  • Forgiveness
  • Service
  • Hope

These values are woven through our collective worship, curriculum and daily life. They help us to make wise choices, build positive relationships and develop the character needed to flourish both in school and beyond.

As children grow through Walsgrave, they learn what each value means and, more importantly, how to put it into action. We want every child to leave our school with the confidence, compassion and resilience to make a positive difference in the world.

Values Advocates

Every year group is a proud advocate for one of our six Christian values.

Throughout the year, each class explores its value in depth through collective worship, classroom learning, service opportunities and acts of courageous advocacy. Children lead by example, encouraging others to live out their value in practical ways and helping to strengthen our whole school community.

Our Values Ambassadors remind us that everyone has an important part to play in helping our vision become a reality. By serving others, showing kindness, demonstrating perseverance and offering hope, they inspire us all to flourish together.

Living Our Values

Our Christian values are not simply words displayed on a wall. They are lived every day through the choices we make and the way we treat one another.

They can be seen when children welcome a new friend, persevere with a difficult piece of learning, forgive after a disagreement, serve others without expecting anything in return, show gratitude for the opportunities they have, or bring hope and encouragement to someone who needs it.

By living these values together, we create a school where everyone feels that they belong, everyone has the opportunity to grow and everyone is inspired to learn.

As Jesus said:

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
John 10:10 (NIV)

Our prayer is that every member of the Walsgrave family will flourish academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally, enabling them to live life in all its fullness.

Together We Thrive.

Friendship

Belonging Together – building relationships, inclusion, and welcome

If one falls down, a friend can lift him up.
Ecclesiastes 4:10

Ruth and Naomi

Advocate Year 1

We are showing friendship
when we include everyone in our games,
when we listen and care for others,
and when we stand by our friends even when it’s hard.

Autumn 1

God has made us to be in relationship with people and because of this we believe that it is so important to support and celebrate friendship. We know at Walsgrave that if children are happy at school they will learn and having positive friendships plays a big part in this.

Endurance

Learning Together – perseverance, resilience, and effort

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need
Colossians 1 10-11

Noah and the Ark

Advocate Year 4

We are showing endurance
when we keep trying, even when something is tough,
when we don’t give up on what’s right,
and when we trust God to help us stay strong.

Autumn 2

After October half term it can feel like a long slog to Christmas. The expectations of what we expect the children to do begins to increase. Teaching children about endurance and to keep on trying even when they find things difficult is very important at this time of year.

Thankfulness

Growing Together – trusting God’s plan and looking to the future with faith

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures
forever.

Psalm 107:1

The Ten Lepers

Advocate EYFS

We are showing thankfulness
when we notice the good things around us,
when we say thank you to God and others,
and when we appreciate the world He has made.

Spring 1

At the start of the new year we like to encourage everyone to reflect and be thankful for what they have.

Forgiveness

Growing Together – living faith through action

Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.
Matthew 2:12

The Prodigal Son

Advocate Year 3

We are showing forgiveness
when we say sorry and mean it,
when we let go of hurt and choose peace,
and when we give others a fresh start, just as God forgives us.

Spring 2

As we approach Easter it is important to look at the impact that forgiveness has on us all. Jesus died on the cross so we could be forgiven and live life to to the full. We want children to understand what this means for them as well as understanding the importance of forgiving others and asking for forgiveness too.

Service

Growing Together – gratitude and reflection

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
1 Peter 4:10

Jesus washes his disciples feet

Advocate Year 2

We are showing service
when we help without being asked,
when we use our time and talents to make things better,
and when we put others’ needs before our own.

Summer 1

At Walsgrave we want to make an impact in our local community. Whether this is through supporting the local foodbank or singing at care homes. We want to serve others with the gifts that God has given us

Hope

Belonging Together – restoring relationships

Let your hope keep you joyful.

Romans 12:12

The parable of the lost sheep

Advocate Year 5

We are showing hope
when we believe that good things can grow from hard times,
when we look for light in dark moments,
and when we share encouragement with others.

Summer 2

As we look forward to the next academic year we want children to have hope for the future. For some children this may involve going to a new school and for the others a new class. This can be a difficult for some and we want them to know that there is always hope in every situation.

All Values

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

John 13:15

Moses led God’s people

Joshua and Caleb – passing on leadership

Year 6 – Leadership through All Values

We are showing all our school values
when we lead by example,
when we guide and support younger pupils,
and when our actions reflect friendship, service, endurance, forgiveness, thankfulness, and hope.
